It's a Steal !!!

There is this special feeling when you step into a secondhand bookstore. For book lovers like me, a secondhand bookstore is like a treasure trove, full of surprises whereby you will not know what books you may find and also what unique contents that are in those books that were sold off (Example: special messages and notes).

So, last Saturday, I took the chance of visiting one secondhand bookstore in Chowrasta market as I was nearby the area. There were so many books, I did not really have the time to look through every single one of them. There were old and new books lying everywhere. The "old" books weren't so old and they were still in good condition. I saw books by Cecelia Ahern, Stephen King, Dan Brown, Jodi Picoult and so many other fictional novel authors that I loved so much.

Anyway, after searching for roughly 45 minutes, I ended up with these two books, Stephen King's Cujo and Dorothy Koomson's The Chocolate Run.

It was a steal!! Two books for the price of RM28 and they were in good condition. After I am done with them, I plan to go back for a second bargain. This time I am aiming for Dan Brown's Digital Fortress. XD

Attraction...

It is simple really.. what you fear the most is inevitable. This is simply called the law of attraction.
The more you think of it, the less focus you are of the task at hand and this will cause that fear will show itself.
That is why Buddhism teaches us never to envy but be happy for others. Not to compare but be grateful.

So? Be good and do your work in the best way possible. After all, the only record you need to beat, is your own. ^^

I will miss all of it... I know I will...

I love those moments where you have the time to reflect on life. Yes.. my life has always been busy or I made it to be busy because I like it that way. I feel alive when I complete a task, be it a small one or a big one. This is one of those rare times where I have the chance to blog when I actually have the mood to. Sitting here alone with a great view in front of me, I reflected back through the last three years of my life.

I have a month left of my university life before I graduate into the working world. I am excited to work as I have many plans to carry out but in a way, I have a feeling that I would miss my university life. My university life did not start off as easily compared to other newbies like me. I had trouble fitting in due to some language barriers but I managed to pull through. Its all thanks to the support given to me by the people around me. The main support given were from 3 important individuals in my life (Mom , Sis and Jian). They made me fight for what I believe in and also for what I want. Without them, things wont even be as they are now.

Plenty of thanks to Ming Ming, whose support and hugs can be felt all the way from Malacca! Who could forget my Garfield-loving otaku friend,Keng Yee, who had accompanied me through the 17 years of my life and is now complaining she sees me too much. ^^ I could not be more grateful to have the opportunity to meet these two happy-go-lucky people, Sok Li and Ah Howe, who made me realized that life is meant to be enjoyed. You could never see a frown on their faces and they are often contented with what they have. Not to mention my techie friends, Frankie (the gummy bear crazed guy), PM (monkey + stuffed stuff + DSLR crazed gal) and McKhor (Haha.. I still can't be sure what he is crazy bout'). I'll always remember all the "sampat" things we do. There are many cherished memories... Memories I hope I will never forget.

I felt that with these people around me and the opportunities I took to learn, I managed to become more mature over these years. I am happier, much more responsible, more knowledgeable and I know what I want in life. The best part of all of these is that I can now managed to see things in a bigger picture and much more optimistic view.

I was not the only one who changed through these years. I had the chance to see others grow as well. There where those who came out stronger from all the challenges, more cheerful when facing difficulties and in the end , becoming a better person. Seeing these changes in those surrounding me, I managed to convince myself that people can change for the better if they are given the change along with a helping hand. Despite of some of the hardships I have been through, I am glad and I do not think I would change anything. I won't change the friends I have, the lesson I have learnt and most of all, I won't trade my experiences in this university. They helped made me who I am today.

Sunrise and Sunset

Start of a  brand new day and a brand new resolve.

End of a good day and job well done.

No longer do I start the day demotivated.
If others can't motivate you, find something that can.
What is ~Life~ if you cannot appreciate it?

The roots told the leaves there aren't enough water to last them over the drought. They requested the leaves to gather as much dew as possible and pass it to them before the tree starts to die. There were only a few days left before water runs out. The leaves didn't fully comprehend and just nodded their agreement. When they ran out of water and started to wilt, they blame the roots. In the end, the tree died.

Why? Cos no one bothered to listen to the roots.

What is the optimistic point of view of this? Ponder on and I'll continue it later.

You do not like to smile???

Then, you should read this. This is something I posted years ago in a very old blog of mine and I recently stumbled upon it.

TITLE: Smile

Smile!

It costs nothing but creates much.

It enriches those who receives it

without impoverishing those who give it.

It happens in a flash,

and the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.

None are so rich they can get along without it,

and none are so poor but are richer for its benefits.

It creates happinessin the home,

fosters goodwill in business,

and is the countersign of friends.

It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged,

sunshine to the sad, and nature's best antidote for trouble.

Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed or stolen,

for it is something that is no earthly good to anyone until it is given away!

And if you should meet someone too tired or sick or depressed to give you a smile,

make sure you leave them one of yours.

For no one needs a smile so much as those who have none left to give.

A smile is always welcomed

for it opens doors and hearts as if it were a key.

Smile!

- author unknown-

Think back to those times when you're down. Was there a person who came up and smiled? Cheered you up? Did that create an impression on you?

Smiles are free but they are priceless. So just smile and you might just brighten up someone's day!

Cubicle Toys... Aha..!

For the past week, I have been searching for things to relieve my stress or in a way, help me find solutions for the programs I have been doing. In the end, this little fella (My little Yellow) ended up as my victim. Poor guy.. He was squeezed , dragged and punched by my colleagues too.. [office violence]

So I went looking for cubicle toys and I came upon some *ahem* cool stuff. Seriously..

So if you're bored and looking forward to doing some damage around the office, this is one of the toys for you. Introducing the USB wireless rocket launcher!
Seems cool right? They have additional ammo that you can purchase. There are various other rocket launchers such as the USB webcam rocket launcher. If you want something that is harmless , you can check out the plush gun and grenade.(the concept seems funny.. haha)

They also have cool interactive shirts on the site. The 8-bit dynamic life shirt is one of my personal favourites. To check for other stuff that they have, here is the link ---> www.thinkgeek.com.

On another matter, I realised I have been listening to some old and new favourites songs of mine from Evanescence, U2 and the All-American Rejects. Here are some of the songs:

Evanescence:
1. Going Under
2. Call Me When You're Sober
3. Everybody's Fool
4. Good Enough ( This is a slow song from them that I really like)

U2:
1. The sweetest thing ( I like this video..)
2. Elevation
3. Vertigo

The All American Rejects:
1. Swing Swing
2. Dirty Little Secret
3. Gives You Hell
4. I Wanna

My sudden craze..

Introducing my sudden craze in.... WEB DESIGN!!

Ever since I have been introduced to PHP and css by my mentor, I have been searching around the WWW for interesting blogs, blogs with designs that blow my mind away and also blogs that teach me more about web designs and layouts. Here are a few websites that I find interesting and is worth the time to check out... You can click on the pictures to go to the websites. These are the websites you would not want to miss...

A List Apart
This website gives you the information you'll need to learn and explore explores the design, development, and meaning of web content. There are many different and experienced web designers that actually chip in their articles.

Cheth Studios
This is a blog which proves that Blogger blogs can look real good. There are many more cool stuff in here.

Zen Garden
Those who do not know the greatness and beauty of css can have a look at Zen Garden. The concept is really simple. Same documents , different layouts, one css file. For those who really want to learn about css, you can check out all the designs they have and check out how they coded it.

The following three websites are basically flash websites but I find their concepts to be really nice. Take for example, the StarbucksCoffeeAtHome website, the way they played with the colours are just awesome and GotMilk's is just cute and interactive.

As for BrownBagFilms, their website is very in tuned to the work that they are promoting. They also have a blog that you can check out.

If you're interested in nicer websites, you can check out DesignBombs. They showcase the some of the nicest websites.

This roughly sums up the post. There will be more from me as I attempt to learn more about web designs and indulging myself in this craze.

1 Hati , 1 Malaysia

It is the month of Merdeka and the hype about 1 Malaysia is going around. So I set out on a task to design a heart shaped cardboard with the theme "1 Hati, 1 Malaysia". I am actually helping someone with this tiny project and we got it done within three and a half hours? Not bad actually considering the fact that I only had huge -tip markers to work with.

This is the overall view while the bottom picture is the close-up. My apologies for the distorted pictures. It was taken with very bad lighting..

So it is the month for us to be united and be grateful that we live in a peaceful country..Happy Merdeka!

Rainbows or Clouds?

"Look in the mirror first and contemplate on yourself before passing the judgement on others.

Leader or follower?
It's your choice, just depends on the actions and initiative taken.

Right or Wrong?
It depends on whether you can face facts or rather stay in a delusional state.

Loyalty or Betrayal?
Good and loyal friends are hard to find.Even those who claim to be your friends can betray you in an instant.

Truth or Lies?
Tell the truth even when no one bothers to believe or even listen. Never lie because lies will always bring about discord.

Love or Hate?
Continuous hatred will just simply bring misery while spreading joy to others will bring happiness to yourself.

Words or Silence?
Speak when necessary and think thoroughly before speaking. Words that are intended to harm will only cause misery to oneself. Be frank and be truthful. "

For the past few weeks, I have seen the many sides of different people. Those whom I thought to be, are not what they appear to be at all. Maybe I am a bad judge of character. I always feel that there are some good in everyone (no matter how many times that person has done something bad to me) and I feel that everyone deserve to have second chances. There are some who told me that I am not living in the real world just because they think that humans cannot be trusted. Well, these people should know better.

I admit that even if that someone has the utmost confidence and also the world's knowledge in their hands, they are no better a human if they cannot be good to others, have compassion and be honest to themselves. There are many people you can meet in this world, various characters that could paint a rainbow in your life or continuously cause incessant rain.

I just know everyone has some good in them, but maybe they do not choose to show it.

If only...

Have you ever been in a situation where you wake up in the morning, see the beautiful view outside the window, felt glad that it was a new and sunny day and suddenly, BAM!

You remember back all the things that need to be done, wondered how it felt like if things were different and just wish that you could turn back time?
There are times where I wondered how things would be like if I had taken a different choice?

Will I still study so hard if I was not in uni?
Would things be better if I were studying overseas?
Would things be better if I did not think so much?
Would life be easier if I was a bit less giving?
Would life be easier if I gave more?
If I did not do "this" or "that", would things be better?
If I did not do some of the things I did.....
If only I knew...

But living in the present is all I have. No matter how I tried, none of the above or more can be answered.

So after trying to think of the "What ifs'",reality sinks in. Then, I just get up and hope that today will be another good day.

Just feel like it..

Study week is over and I did not even start studying much. Something has been bothering me or maybe I have been thinking too much about things again..

Yesterday wasted all my credit calling a guy who was involved in an accident with my friend.Basically got yelled at for no reason. Lets just say everything was screwed. Yesterday was chaotic and I wonder why people cant be grateful... sigh..

Just wish everything will go well....

I am no toy.. Please stop playing..

Lately I feel like I have been played around. Not by people but by chance/fate/ destiny( as Sing Chow calls it) He said, "Go with the flow".

For the past two days, I asked myself ---> S or M?

One offers such a good opportunity, an opportunity that only a fool would turn down.

Chance played with me. S called and said," We are sorry to inform you this but, due to the economy crisis both IT projects had to be cancelled. Therefore, we could not take you as an intern. I am very sorry. I had even prepared the documents thinking it was going to be successful. Sorry again. Thank you". That was the end of the conversation with S.

See how chance played with me? I was offered. Then it was all due to luck that I could not have it. Well.. guess now everything will go as usual. No one will complain, everyone will be happy and I will just do my best at M. It is internship afterall. Now no one can say I am selfish for going to Miri since I am no longer going.

On the plus side, at least I knew that I was good enough for S.

= Maybe fate had something better in store for me... hopefully....=)

What do you do when someone thinks you're not good enough?
Willingness to try and work hard does not seem to matter. Why can't anyone just give me a chance? Why do I have to constantly prove myself over and over again? Why give a chance to those who do not bother but reject me at the slightest hint?

Why?

So puzzled and so disappointed

Nice story

EYES

There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind. She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend, who was always there for her. She said that if she could only see the world, she would marry her boyfriend. One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. She could see everything, including her boyfriend. Her boyfriend asked her, “Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?”

The girl was shocked when she saw that her boyfriend was blind, and refused to marry him. Her boyfriend walked away in tears, and later wrote a letter to her saying - “Just take care of my eyes dear.”

~~so touching~~

CNY is around the corner....

It is finally the holidays for this year's Chinese New Year celebrations. I just came back yesterday after weeks of assignments and work. Even though I did not really have the New Year mood, I still felt many of my friends who did. I attempted to make myself catch the CNY bug, but kind of failed to do so.. However, I did change my blog's header in order to brighten things up. =P

Usually during CNY week, I will be the one decorating the house. However this year,I did not decorate so much. But I do hope that this year would be a joyful year for my family and I.

Even though I hoped it would be joyful but I have to admit that this year, CNY celebrations would be very different for me. There will not be any relatives visiting, no friends coming by and no nice family reunion dinner. Yes.. indeed it is very different to what I was accustomed to but times change and I have to accept the fact.
Therefore, this CNY I will be going to visit my aunt and also a few friends, come back and work( i know that is lame) and maybe just enjoy the holidays. I hardly bought any new clothes but the good news is that I have finally bought a new pair of shoes. Its pink.. and if I had a camera, I would have taken pictures of it and posted it here. (too bad...)

Anyway, HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR to everyone. May this year be filled with joy, happiness, love and plenty of opportunities for all.
